Project Overview
In 2006 John Snyder Architects conducted a feasibility report for the adaptation of the old Sheriff’s building and jail at 14 West Park Place in Norwich, New York, incorporating analysis and design recommendations for the building. The analysis of the space included interior and exterior observations, considering the potential of the existing design for future uses as well as the restoration required to make efficient reuse possible. The Building was originally designed in 1902 by W.J. Beardsley a prominent New Yorks State architect for courthouse facilities across New York State.
After years of improper maintenance, considerable repairs were needed to restore the building to an habitable state. the project included exterior structural repairs, repairs to the roof drainage system, cleaning of the exterior brick walls, and the clearing of the site. Interior repairs included replacement of flooring and damaged wall materials, as well as bringing the whole building up to fire and accessibility codes. The entire mechanical heating and cooling system also had to be replaced, and replacement of the roof was recommended as well. As well as establishing the major basic repairs that needed to be made, We also created a exterior stair and elevator link between the buildings effectively linking both buildings together at the second floor.
